About the Book

“Prayer is not the luxury of the few, but the duty—and joy—of us all.”

A Retreat for Lay People has become one of Ronald Knox’s most beloved works. With clarity, wit, and pastoral warmth, Knox leads readers step by step through the essentials of the spiritual life—prayer, meditation, overcoming temptation, grace, and the sacraments—showing how the timeless rhythm of a retreat can be lived out in ordinary Catholic life. His meditations are practical, encouraging, and deeply human, written for those who seek to pray better and live more faithfully in the midst of daily responsibilities.

Praise

“Knox makes the spiritual life vivid and practical for ordinary men and women, without losing depth or dignity.” —The Tablet

“A master of clarity and charm, Knox speaks to the heart as well as the mind.” —Catholic Herald

“This little book retains all the warmth of a preached retreat … its pages continue to encourage Catholics everywhere to pray more simply, more faithfully, and with greater joy.” —Church Times
