About the Book

A storybook treasury to be opened again and again—like a little lantern lighting the way.

Open these pages and step into a world where saints walk beside shepherd boys, angels whisper in quiet moments, and ordinary children discover grace in the most unexpected places. In this enchanting collection, Ethna Sheehan gathers sparkling tales and poems from beloved authors such as Aesop, Hilaire Belloc, G. K. Chesterton, and Eleanor Farjeon—stories that twinkle with wonder, wisdom, and a touch of joyful mischief. From Gospel scenes to legends of heroes, from gentle miracles to merry adventures, each story carries the soft glow of faith and the bright laughter of childhood.

About the Author

Born within earshot of the Irish sea, Ethna Sheehan grew up listening to old tales carried on the wind and learning her first love of story in a convent classroom. After moving to New York, she continued her studies at Hunter College and Columbia University before becoming Head of Library Work with Children for the Queens Borough Public Library. A librarian with an adventurer’s heart, Sheehan spent her life gathering stories that shimmered with goodness and beauty. Her selections for this treasury reflect a simple belief: give children luminous stories, and their imaginations will remember the light.
