The Works of Fulton J. Sheen
Fulton J. Sheen (1895-1979) was one of the best-loved prelates of twentieth-century Catholicism. A prolific writer and orator, a distinguished scholar and teacher, an influential master of the media, Bishop Sheen was one of the most effective communicators of our time. His scores of books have offered inspiration, profound thought, and penetrating analysis of Christian faith and life.
This bundle contains paperback copies of 4 of Fulton Sheen's writings on the life and words of Christ, demonstrating his unparalleled ability to combine theology, devotion, and the profoundest meditations on the central events of the Christian narrative.

The Seven Beatitudes and The Seven Words from the Cross—both were delivered from a mountain, but the connection runs deeper than that. As Bishop Sheen points out, Our Lord began His Public Life on the Mount of the Beatitudes and closed it on the Mount of Calvary. On the first He uttered the words central to His message; on the second He spoke to the deed central to His mission. Two avenues were thereby opened: one for spreading the Good News throughout the world, the other for reconciling all men to God through Christ.

Fulton J. Sheen turned his voice and pen to many subjects during the course of a long and remarkable apostolate. But nothing was closer to the heart of his message than bringing the words of Our Lord and Our Blessed Mother to bear on the problems of modern life and the modern world. In this book, Archbishop Sheen explores the connection between the seven words spoken by Mary in the Gospels, and the seven last words of Jesus on the Cross.

To give us a better understanding of the Catholic faith, in Characters of the Passion Fulton J. Sheen returns us to Calvary. There he dramatically brings to life in brief but penetrating characterizations many who played important roles in the “Eternal Drama of the Cross.” Peter, Judas, Pilate, Herod, Barabbas, and others make an appearance, and through them the author shows us new aspects of the glory of the Faith.

Fulton Sheen wrote the 559-page Life of Christ in 1958. For those who have not the time or the inclination to undertake a reading of that massive volume, Sheen wrote four years earlier a much smaller and more accessible book, a distillation of his thought on the life of Jesus, now made available for the first time in nearly 60 years. In A Brief Life of Christ, Sheen employs the twin pillars of faith and reason to draw out the meaning of the life of Jesus for our times. For example, he notes that once Christ appeared He split history in two, the period prior to and subsequent to His Coming. He pointedly shows how Christ issues His challenge alike to nations, peoples, and individual souls.
